Basalt

Basalt, ein dichter Feldstein, meistens mit Feldspath, Glimmer, Amphibol, etc. gemischt, schwarz, braun, grünlich, grau. Ganze Gebirgsstrecken, wie z. B. das Siebengebirge, das Mittelgebirge in Böhmen, das sächsische Erzgebirge, Riesengebirge etc. bestehen aus Basaltlagern. Er wird im Feuer mürbe und schmilzt bei großer Hitze. Man benutzt ihn zum Straßenpflaster, zu Thür- und Fensterpfosten etc.
