Banti

Banti, (Signora) eine berühmte Sängerin, die sich des Beinamens der Virtuosin des Jahrhunderts erfreute. Sie war 1757 zu Crema in der Lombardei geboren, und wir verdanken vorzüglich den Memoiren des Directors de Vismes einige Mittheilungen über die außerordentliche Fertigkeit ihres Gesanges; die Stimme derselben war von seltenem Umfang und ihr Gehör so geübt, daß sie die schwerste Arie treu nachsang, nachdem sie sie nicht öfter als zwei Mal gehört hatte. De Vismes gewann die Banti für die Opera buffa von Paris, wo sie zuerst in der Oper Iphigenie in Aulide auftrat und mit dem größten Jubel aufgenommen wurde. Gleichen Empfang bereitete sich ihre Kunstfertigkeit fast auf allen erste Bühnen Europa's, und neun Jahre hindurch entzückte sie die Dilettanti der Opera buffa von London. Sie starb in Bologna in ihrem 50. Lebensjahre am 18. Februar 1806.
